A complete guide to eyelash extensions - Galway Style
Despite working in Glam Gals, I am the laziest of the lazy when it comes to getting ready in the morning. In my perfect world I would wake up with beautiful make-up or at least looking exactly as I looked the day before ;) Unfortunately the world doesn’t work like this:(
Then. a few years back came the answer to my prayers: eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions are individual lashes, made of silk, mink or something synthetic, that are attached to your existing lashes semi-permanently. Curious? At least a little? Good – so get off Google search – here’s everything you need to know about getting eyelash extensions.
1. It is a very luxurious process
Really – it’s totally enjoyable. You lie down on a bed and close your eyes for an hour and a half while calming music plays in the background and a specialist attaches little feathery nothings to your lashes. It’s the most socially acceptable nap time a working adult could ask for ;)
2. Every lash extension experience is customizable.
Each girl’s personality is different and so is their eyelash extension finish look. First you can choose the length.
Most salons will carry extension from 9 to 15mm (or from natural to Kardashian length ;)). The sweet spot for most is 10 to 12mm. After that, pick your curl. A “J” curl is for more natural, awake look, while a “C” curl is more dramatic. If you want to get more creative you can also mix them to create “cat look” or “dolly look” on your eyelashes. Or you can simply trust your Glam Gals specialist and let her do her magic ;)
3. Eyelash extensions last longer than you think.
With proper care. extensions last up to a month/5 weeks. Most places recommend you to come back every 2-3 weeks for a touch-up, so you will have your dream look all the time :)
4. Yes, you can wear make-up with them ;)
If you can’t stand the thought of ditching your smokey eyes, don’t worry, you don’t have to!! Only liquid-based eye products can be damaging to the extensions. Make sure also to carefully remove the shadow or liner with oil-free make up remover.
Also, be careful not to get water on your lashes. Most importantly, stay away from mascara entirely as it leaves extensions crusty and damaged.
5. Extensions can ruin your lashes – but they don’t have to.
That is if you don’t play by the rules ;) There are many people who have made a mistake of pulling out the extensions themselves – not only is it extremely painful, but it leaves you with few or no natural lashes left.
However, I strongly advise you to once every two-three refill appointments give yourself an “eyelash rehab” program of applying Vaseline to natural lashes every night for two weeks and your eyelashes will be stronger then ever :)
6. The only way to get rid of them is to get them professionally removed or have them fall out
Having the extensions removed is as easy as having them put on – painless and relatively quick. At Glam Gals we provide this service. If you are not looking to spend any more money, however, the extensions do fall out with the natural shedding of your lashes. This is a much slower process, but it is free, so there’s that ;)
